David Whitmer, President

After enlisting in the Marine Corps out of high school, Dave was one of just 12 Marines selected in 1995 to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, where he earned a degree in Systems Engineering. He went on to serve a distinguished career as a U.S. Navy Commander, flying F/A-18s across seven deployments. Over the course of his service, Dave was awarded the Air Medal 9 times (3 for Valor) for his actions during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is also a graduate of TOPGUN, the Navy’s elite Fighter Weapons School.

Dave’s military career included overseeing operational testing of all F/A-18 software, networking, and sensors at China Lake, CA, as well as serving aboard the USS George Washington as “Mini Boss.” In that role, he was responsible for more than 750 sailors and managed all air operations within 10 miles of the carrier, including flight deck, catapults, arresting gear, hangar bay, crash/salvage, and fuels divisions.

Following his Navy retirement, Dave transitioned into the private sector, where he helped scale a three-person consulting firm into a leading fintech company processing over $27 billion in international transactions. He also personally designed and coded the Intuit TurboTax loan program, which underwrites up to $60,000 per second on IRS opening day and facilitates $700M in loans each season, while maintaining loss rates under 2%.

At Whitmer Industries, Dave leverages this rare combination of technical acumen and leadership discipline to guide the company’s growth as a precision CNC machining partner. He remains deeply involved in programming and systems integration on the shop floor while leading the company’s strategic vision.

Outside of work, Dave is passionate about mentoring the next generation of innovators. He coaches the renowned BrainSTEM robotics teams in both the FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition. An Eagle Scout himself, Dave is dedicated to developing future leaders through STEM and community engagement.
